#1. Do choose the right Saniflo system

#2. Do use approved Saniflo engineers
Make sure you use a trusted and reputable Saniflo installer when it comes to getting your system fitted. Only Saniflo approved contractors have the training, tools, knowledge and equipment to professionally and correctly fit your Saniflo system. If you try to do it yourself or hire someone who is not approved by Saniflo, you risk voiding your warranty.

#3. Cleaning and Descaling Your Saniflo
A Saniflo system that is cleaned regularly is going to last longer than one that is left to develop limescale and other mineral build-up. To clean your Saniflo thoroughly, follow the below and always read the instructions on the side of the bottle.
- Disconnect the unit from the electric supply by unplugging, removing the fuse or simply turning off the switch.
- Pour half of the bottle of Saniflo Descaler into either the toilet bowl or one of the other inlets (basin/shower etc – use a funnel as the solution can discolour certain materials).
- Leave the descaling solution to work for at least two hours.
- Reinstate the power supply and either flush the toilet a couple of times or run some water for a minute or so to rinse.

Very hard water areas: use every month; Hard water areas: use every 3 months; and soft water areas: every 6 months.
For general cleaning of the toilet pan we recommend using descaling toilet cleaners such as Harpic. Bleach and solvent cleaners may cause damage to any pumping units and is not advised.
#4. Use Saniflo Descaler
Harsh bathroom chemicals and other descaler products are not suited to your Saniflo system and can cause it to break down prematurely. We would always advise using a specially formulated Saniflo descaler to clean your Saniflo system. It has been expertly designed to effectively clean and protect your system. Helping it last longer.
To clean your Saniflo thoroughly, follow the below and always read the instructions on the side of the bottle.
- Disconnect the unit from the electric supply.
- Pour half the contents into the toilet bowl.
- Leave to work for 2 hours.
- Reconnect the unit to the electricity supply.
- Flush twice to rinse.

#5. Do keep your Saniflo system maintained by professionals

#1. Don’t Flush Anything Other Than Waste and Toilet Paper
Like most toilets, Saniflo systems will get blocked up if you’re flushing the wrong things. These include:
- Sanitary towels
- Tampons
- Baby wipes
- Toys
- Food and other debris
- Too much toilet paper
- Flushable wet wipes
Protect your Saniflo macerator by only allowing waste and toilet paper through the system. Anything else will inevitably cause a blockage, which can lead to easily avoidable repairs. Educate your household on what not to flush.

#2. Don’t Use bleach
Bleach should not be used in conjunction with your Saniflo. The harsh chemicals will wear down the mechanisms and seals, causing bigger problems in the long term, such as your Saniflo not working. Stick to Saniflo descaler to clean your system and leave the bleach alone.
It may be cheaper in the short term, but when you’re faced with the cost of needing a new macerator, you’ll wish you hadn’t gone for the cheaper option.
#3. Don’t try to diagnose the issue by yourself
Saniflo systems, while easy to install, can be tricky to fix. So, if you find that your Saniflo has stopped working, call out an expert rather than trying to diagnose the issue yourself. You may just end up making the problem worse or even cause damage to yourself or your property. Best call in the professionals for reliable repairs.
#4. Don’t use hot or boiling wash cycles
If your Saniflo system is connected to a washing machine or dishwasher, steer clear of using the 90 degree hot wash cycle. This can cause the motor to overheat and cut out mid-cycle while emptying. Once it has cooled down, the motor will restart. However, it’s best to avoid using hot wash cycles where possible.
Similarly, if you’re using boiling or extremely hot water in your sink, let it cool before emptying it so as not to overheat the system.
